​Professors Felix Dapare Dakora and Ali Ali Hebeish of Ghana and Egypt respectively have been awarded the 2017 African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Award.

The prestigious award was instituted to raise the profile of the science and technology sector in Africa as a whole and thus contributing to Africa’s sustainable development, poverty alleviation and integration efforts. ​Morocco has been readmitted into the African Union on Monday since it left in 1984 after the organisation’s recognition of the independence of Western Sahara.

Morocco asked the African Union (AU) to re-admit it, as it seeks support for its plan to offer autonomy to the disputed territory of Western Sahara while keeping it under Moroccan sovereignty.
